Necessary cookies and browser storage

WordPress, security, administration and contact-form functions may use first-party cookies when needed to provide and protect the website. The preference tool stores values beginning stcm. in your browser’s local storage until you clear this site’s data or reset your preferences. Those values are used only to remember and apply your choices.

Cloudflare Web Analytics — no analytics cookies

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics by default to produce aggregate statistics about visits, page views, popular pages, referring websites, broad country, device, browser and page performance. We use these statistics only to understand and improve this website.

The Cloudflare beacon does not set or read cookies, localStorage, sessionStorage, IndexedDB or other browser storage. Cloudflare states that it does not fingerprint visitors or create persistent visitor identifiers. We rely on the statistical-purposes exception in the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations for this limited use.

The beacon is not loaded on pages whose URL contains a query string, including WordPress search-result pages. You can object at any time, free of charge: open Cookie preferences and switch off Privacy-friendly site statistics. A beacon already sent on the page you are viewing cannot be withdrawn, but saving the off setting reloads the page and prevents the beacon from loading on later page views. This choice is independent from Google Analytics.

Google Analytics cookies

Google Analytics is optional and separate from Cloudflare statistics. Its script and cookies do not load unless you choose Allow Google Analytics. When allowed, Google Analytics may set first-party _ga and _ga_<container-id> cookies, which Google says have a default expiry of two years, subject to browser limits and our configuration. Google Analytics is not loaded on pages whose URL contains a query string.

Your choices

The cookie-preference tool lets you:

• allow or decline Google Analytics cookies;
• switch Cloudflare statistics off or back on independently; and
• change either choice later using the preferences icon.

The Allow Google Analytics and Decline Google Analytics buttons do not change a Cloudflare objection. You can also control cookies through your browser settings, although blocking necessary cookies may affect how the website works.

Affiliate links and third-party websites

This website contains affiliate links. Affiliate links and product images on our pages do not by themselves add an advertising consent category or load advertising scripts. If you follow a link to a retailer, affiliate network or another external website, that third party may use cookies and process information under its own privacy and cookie policies.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy if our website, analytics services or legal obligations change. The date at the top shows when it was last updated. A material change to the analytics choices will trigger the preference tool again where appropriate.
